Throwback Thursday unknown stuntman edition

This morning I decided to shoot an old casting from my childhood collection. Today’s throwback is an ERTL casting from The Fall Guy TV show.

For those not familiar, The Fall Guy was an 80s American TV series starring Lee Majors as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who made extra money as a bounty hunter tracking down bail jumpers. The real 1:1 truck was a 1981 GMC 2500 with the High Sierra package. Initially the show used lightly modded production trucks, but stunts took their toll. My season 2 the producers switched to a custom built chassis with mid engine configuration ( not unlike a modern monster truck ) to better handle flying and landing duties.

The Die cast is made by ERTL, who did quite a few licensed castings in the 80s including Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team, Hardcastle and McCormack, even Rocky. The body lines and panels are decent and about par for toy quality cars of the era. The chassis is chromed plastic, as is the interior, light bar , bed tool box and grill, bumpers and molded in bull bar.

Fun Fact: Lee Majors sang “The Unknown Stuntman” the show’s theme song. Bonus Fact: there is a remake with Dwayne Johnson rumored to be in pre-production.
