Fiat Friday - Cinquecento "Lupin III"

Here's another "Dream Tomica" from my latest Japan package. The Fiat 500 from the Manga Series "Lupin the Third". Now that bit of Japanese Culture never really caught on in the West - unlike, say, Initial D. So what is it all about? Wikipedia is our friend, so...

"Lupin III (ルパン三世 Rupan Sansei?), also written as Lupin the Third or Lupin the 3rd, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Monkey Punch. It follows the escapades of master thief Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc's series of novels."

Ok, I'm really none the wiser, so let's move on to the model.

So it's a pretty good representation of the classic baby Fiat - of course, with the embellishments required by the cartoon series.

But I really couldn't work out what was going on with the engine until I looked at what is available on YouTube - there you can see the little machine in action - and apparently, it has some tricks up its sleeve. So, what we have here is a bit of Italo-French-Japanese insanity. Enjoy. ;-)
