French Friday...sort of

Normally I don't care much for HWs generic models - or "originals" as Mattel likes to call them. But there are some that strike a chord with me - particularly those that are modern interpretations of classics, like this one - the "Avant Garde".

This casting was designed by Jun Imai and is obviously a modern interpretation of the Citroen DS. Designing a homage to the DS is not an easy task, but I think he pulled if off rather well. Of course, being a HotWheels, it doesn't have to be practical, or street legal, or meet any safety regulations - that makes things a lot easier.

Most car makers these days have some sort of retro design in their line-up - but Citroen has so far resisted. I've often wondered if that was a smart move or not, their current models really don't seem to capture the spirit of the brand terribly well.

Then again, modern Citroens are (apparently) a lot more reliable than they used to be. But they also seem a lot more bland.

But back to the model at hand - I like it a lot, except for the chrome interior. But given that it's a "concept car", I can live with that.

Now what I would like so see is Mr Imai's updated idea of an Ami or an SM. Oui?
