My archaeological dig through my “toy room” has led to some unexpected find - a whole box full of 1960s and 70s race cars, (F1, Can Am and NASCAR) that I bought off a fellow collector a few years ago and promptly forgot about.
The models themselves date from the 70s through to the 90s. This one is an old Racing Champions ‘69 Mercury Cyclone. The casting is dated 1992. I knew nothing about the driver, Cecil Gordon. Wikipedia doesn’t have a lot about him either, except that he was a “competitor in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series between 1968 and 1985, he competed in 449 events without winning a race.”
That’s dedication.
He seems to have raced a variety of yellow Fords and Mercurys with the number 24 - the below picture is the only once I could find that shows this car - or something very similar.
I will show some of the other stuff I found occasionally, but...they are not exactly on par with Kyosho models when it comes to detail...
