What happened here? It’s not often that Siku get it so wrong, but this one is a bit...odd. The casting started off as one of the earlier metal castings by Siku (after they moved away from plastic), with plain paint job and plain black wheels.

This one is the “Superfastified” version with “sporty” wheels and metallic paint plus yellow tinted windows - concessions to the fact that the competition had given the German company something to think about.

But compared to the real thing, the proportions are just off. It looks too long, narrow and square compared to the curves of the original. Perhaps that tells you something about Teutonic vs Italian ideals of beauty? Or is that too much of a cliché?

I really like it as a model - it is heavy, rolls well, and is beautifully crafted and painted. It’s just a bit wide off the mark as a “scale model” of the real thing.
