Land of the Rising Sun-Day: Hot Wheels Honda NSX

Alright, call it an Acura if you must, but for me (and anyone else outside of the US), it’s a Honda.

This is Hot Wheel’s second casting of the the NSX - the previous 2008 version being more of a race version, which at least to me, wasn’t very convincing. This one is a lot more like it - and apart from the oversized rear wheels, looks true to the real thing. I was happy to find a white version too, as this is the best colour for this car IMO.

For a model at this price, the details are terrific, and as always with Hot Wheels, it is best to get the early releases before the tampo designers have a chance to go to town on it.

And as we are all petrol heads here, I presume we all know that the NSX was Honda’s Hero Car - with a suspension tuned by Ayrton Senna, with titanium suspension parts to save weight, and a dedicated 23-step paint process, including an aircraft type chromate coating designed for chemically protecting the aluminium bodywork and a waterborne paint for the base coat to achieve a clearer, more vivid top color and a smoother surface finish.

Production of the new NSX has started - though I don’t think we have seen them here locally. Used NSX are often considered a supercar bargain - at least in some countries. The cheapest one for sale here us AU$ 85,000. It is also the only one I can find for sale, so that makes price comparisons hard! Either way, even if you find a cheap one, any repairs won’t be.

But don’t let that put you off dreaming of one, or dreaming of going round Suzuka with Ayrton...
