So Tomica put out a new casting - and almost no one noticed. It’s the Countach LP400. And if you know your Tomica history, you will know that there already was an LP400 casting - the F37. A good excuse to pull that one out and compare the two.

As you can see from the top view, everything looks very similar - though nothing is quite exactly the same.

The black bumper on the new casting on the left has a few more details, the “F037" script on the licence plate is gone, and there are some tampos on the front.

Towards the rear, once again more tampos, the air vents now have more detail and have sharper contours.

The wheels are the typical Tomica design, but the older version sports gold 4 spoke items, vs the new version with silver 5 spokes.

On to the engine bay - where there used to be a separate chromed piece, now a more restrained silver piece.

Around the back, you can see that the new casting sits just a bit lower. Once again, the F037 script is gone. But the tail lights look sharper on the old one - or is there just too much paint on the new one? You can also see some rough casting edges on the older version. The new one is squeaky clean in that department.

The base is also totally different - the reference to the scale is gone, and the copyright is now 2018, not 1977.

So it’s a very good, improved recreation of the F37. But the question remains - why did they bother? After all, they already have the new Premium LP500S.

At the moment, it is only available through the Tomica Online Shop, but I can’t believe that this will be the only time we will see this model. A Lamborghini History set perhaps? Time will tell.
