I mistakenly assumed this was a 2017 VW Golf R toy. But thanks to my dear friends here at LaLD they’ve informed me that this indeed is a GTI (MK7.5). Feel a bit foolish, but hey, everyday is a learning experience! Thanks guys!
Found this Motor Max Veedub at a Toys R Us branch in my hometown of Johor Bahru, Malaysia. As a collector of largely 1/64 scale diecasts and this from a brand that (if I remember correctly, haven’t sold individual 1/64 cars since the mid-2000s), I could NOT leave this behind!
What I love about it is that it is pure 1/64 scale and the body/tampos seem to be of high quality. The overall shape is fairly faithful to the 1/1 Golf. However, what I dislike are the lightweight metals they use to produce the body (and therefore affects the overall weight of the toy), the godawful wheels, and the lack of interior thanks to the ‘heavily tinted’ window piece.
