It has been a while since I have posted a completed custom on here as I haven't had much time to do any lately. This was one I finished back in fall but for some reason never shared it with all of you! This started out as a commissioned job from a good friend who wanted me to clone his fathers 73 Bronco he has been working on. His Bronco is awesome and is ever evolving as he makes it his own. My buddy came across this casting when his 5 year old son brought it to him and said it looked like grandpas!!! Well after I got my hands on it, he was right!
I started out with a Matchbox casting that had a ragtop on it and was yellow in color. A quick disassembly and paint stripping had it ready to build on to. First up was the all important paint color which is actually primer. I had my friend steal the paint his dad was using while doing bodywork so it is 100% color matched!
Primed!
Next up was making a tonneau cover similar to the one he made for his. I used a playing card which I covered in green tape to add texture and painted it black:
I began adding all the details:
I then glued it back together:
Now, some finished pictures of the real thing!
When it was all said and done my buddy gave it to his dad as a surprise for Christmas which he loved! I was happy to be a part of it!
