Racing legends are thought to be connected either with drivers or their racing cars. However, there are also names that are above the things. Names that carry so many stories, that it captivates every car and motorsport fan.
Without a doubt, this includes LeMans. More specifically, the 24-hour race of LeMans.
One of the most famous and spectacular races took place there from June 18th to 19th, 1966.
The 34th edition of the race was the highlight of the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari.
Ford dominated the race and during the race, which was marked by numerous failures, finally 3 Ford GT40 MKII finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
There were only a few meters difference between the first and second place. The finish is still very controversial ...
Fact is: Ferrari was disempowered
In the following years 1967 to 1969 Ford was able to continue this success.
The GT40 MKII shown here was used by Team Shelby-American Inc. and was piloted by the two US drivers Dan Gurney and Jerry Grant.
Only the 17th place was reached, because the vehicle has failed after 257 laps to a technical failure.
The Minichamps model in 1/43 scale has a harmonious detailing. The proportions of the GT40 are realistic. That the hood is to open, I was not aware before the purchase. I was all the more pleased when I was able to take a closer look at the model.
The replica of the 7.0L V8 engine is also well done. Here, the detailing could be even better, but then the model would be significantly more expensive.
I particularly like the GoodYear tires with the finely crafted rims including central locking.
In my opinion, a successful model, which may be missing in any motorsport collection.
Have fun with the pictures
By the way.... Part 2 and 3 comin soon... ;-)
