... the Kyosho 86 set. Apparently this is a Circle K exclusive.

So, I’ve wanted to order some Japanese 1/64 cars for quite a while, but I knew that the precise detailing and craftsmanship might ruin $1 Hot Wheels (with their garish details) as well as customising for me forever. I mean, why not spend $20 on a Tomica Limited Vintage, when stripping, painting, and detailing a $1 Hot Wheels ultimately costs just as much in time and materials?

A few months ago, I took a new job with a fairly decent pay raise... and since then, I’ve been a bit more frivolous with my pay check. First, a fancy Korean toilet seat to wash and dry one’s undercarriage; next, a couple of packages from Japan.

You’ll have to wait to see the Tomicarama diorama - there are so many tiny parts that attract curious cats, so I can’t leave the box at my boyfriend’s house. Soon, it will return to my house, along with these Kyoshos and my first two TLVs.

How nice are these? At $29.99 for the set, these are just as cheap as the plastic F-toys classic cars I found at Uwajimaya - minus the minuscule mirrors and antennas my shaky hands had to attach. (Seriously, you try attaching a side mirror roughly the size of an extracted blackhead, and tell me you don’t feel stupid.)

In truth, I’m a Honda girl at heart. I’ve never lusted after Toyota cars (even though the few customs I’ve shared have been Toyotas). But of the new cars of the past decade, the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ have been the only design worthy of my attention. And this flame orange? Yes, oh yes.

The details are exquisite. Black and body color on the mirrors. Plastic head/tail lights. And look at the license plates and exhaust!

I don’t even care that the FT86 wheels don’t roll - a small sacrifice for the sake of aesthetics.
