OK, so I’m a car nut, and I have a whole boatload of toy cars in the basement. Primarily HO scale slot cars. I’ve read Jalopnik for years, and occasionally posted some of my hobby stuff on Oppo. Yesterday Spridget saw one of my posts and was kind enough to direct me here. This is what I posted yesterday:
This is the layout I run these things on. The pic was taken when I first built it; at this point it’s littered with HO scale scenery buildings and cars and parts and stuff, but the track is clear and I still run stuff on it semi-regularly.
Here’s a vid of my kids running cars on it. To give you an idea, the smallest kid in the video is 10 now, and he was maybe 4 or 5 when it was filmed.
Over the last 15 years or so, I have taken so many pics of slot cars that I could probably post a couple of pics a day for YEARS and stay busy. But I will try to take/share new stuff and also post existing stuff. Here’s a small part of my collection. The cars in this case are all original Aurora Thunderjets, Wild Ones, or Tuff Ones. I have many many more Aurora AFX and Tyco cars (and for those of you who know slot cars, a bunch of other brands like Lifelike, Bachmann, Atlas, and others).
Couple of random shots:
And finally, here’s a Flickr photostream I stopped fooling with years ago... but if you go backwards through it to the beginning, you can see how I created an interior backdrop for the two-bay gas station building on my layout. As I painted/modified projects, I used to photograph them against the backdrop as if the work was being done in the gas station. I haven’t done much of this for years, but it’d be nice to know someone was still getting a kick out of it anyway.
Hope to see you all around these parts.
