The Mercedes CLK DTM AMG. Also known by its scientific name:
DaimlerChrysler AG Mercedez-Benz Coupé Leicht Kompakt Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach.
Move along Porsche “PDK”, the name of this car was the original mouthful.
This one is in a glorious 1/64 scale and tastefully brewed together by UCC Premium - yes, THAT Japanese coffee shop. Word is that Kyosho was involved to help bring it to fruition.
While it lacks an interior, the casting and details are bang on the money.
The CLK DTM AMG was built between 2004 and 2006 in tiny numbers and could only be purchased by invitation only.
It was a popular daily driver for many F1 stars at the time.
With 428kW and 800Nm on tap from the 5.4-litre V8 (for reference the contemporary AMG GT R has 430kW and 700Nm), perhaps only those blessed automobile athletes with lightning fast reflexes and an unlimited amount of “Sisu” could actually tame this beast on the road.
It will do zero to sixty in 3.8 seconds and the combination of a mechanical limited slip differential plus the short wheelbase of the CLK must have meant frequent and very expensive trips to the tire shop to replace the OEM fitted Dunlop SP SuperSport tires.
Really dig the style-correct choice of rims on the casting here, shown on the grill of my beater Vito van.
I just love the metallic silver paint finish and attention to detail of this casting.
It portrays the ‘beast in a tux’ duality really well, blending classy lines and aggressive bodywork in a way that appears clean and simple, compared to the subjectively over-designed M’s, RS’s and AMG’s we see on the roads today.
