LaLD Car Week 2019 - Day 5: A Panoramic View

In the small quiet country town of Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, once a year, Ford fans and Holden fans gather together, have a massive brawl of a fistfight whilst inhaling slabs of beer and demolishing sausage sizzles.

At some point during the kerfuffle, a motor race is had.

For the 70's I present the Second place getter of said race in 1979, a Holden LX Torana SS A9X driven to the Bathurst 1000 podium by Peter Janson and Larry Perkins.

The Holden Torana swept the podium and came First, Second and Third place overall, after a gruelling 6 hours and 38 minutes. A fitting swansong tribute to the car, which ended production that year to be replaced by the venerable Commodore.

This model is a religious recreation in 1/64 glory by Biante, which is little known fitout elsewhere in the world, but faithfully produces diecast models of many Aussie cars, ranging from legendary V8 winners to humble everyday Ford and Holden Utes.

I have a bit of a thing for liveried race car models that are plastered with sponsorship decals. Somehow, it makes the casting look more realistic in my opinion, as I mainly collect 1/64's.
