[Custom] ORAT! Datsun 510 Rally Coupe Edition

Well... Maybe at least Dirt Road All The Things!

I got this lovely Datsun 510 coupe in a trade from edu-petrolhead, but unfortunately, as you can see, it came with fugly FTE 2 wheels. I knew I wanted to do SOMETHING with this car, I just didn't know what, until Frosted showed me a picture of a rally-fied 510 that the Hot Wheels version's livery was obviously based on. The path was clear!

I found some slightly larger Matchbox truck wheels that I stole off of a weird tow truck. The wheels just barely didn't fit in the 510's wheel wells. I know rubbin's racin' and all that, but somehow I don't think that's the kind of rubbin' they are referring too, so I sanded the wheel wells to enlarge them just a tad.

I also deepened the groove in the base to raise the car about 1.5 mm, both for that rally look, and to help the wheels actually fit. Finally, I added some headlights, tail lights, and painted the wheels gunmetal instead of chrome, and here is the result! I have to say that I got lazy last night and left the interior as is, but I may go back and detail it later...

Also, as a final not, I'm sorry I have not pushed out a Customs Review yet, but that will be up later today! Busy all-day training at work yesterday and today. Boo!
