Good Friday everyone! I know it's been forever, and I am solely to blame for that, but the Travelling Torchbug is still here! It has been with me in the DC area for a bit, but time never allowed me to do too much with it.
However, what is one of the greatest things Washington, DC has to offer? Monuments! No. Politics! Definitely no. Ben's Chili Bowl! Close, but no. Free museums...? HELL YEAH! And on top of that, as a Dutchman, I am proud to say that the Smithsonian's National Gallery holds quite the collection of Dutch Masters. So I decided to take the Torchbug on a little cultural tour of my home country.
It was a beautiful day for sure, and flanked by the Capitol on one side, and the Washington Monument on the other, we (surprisingly) found a great parkingspot near the National Gallery.
After posing for a nice shot near the entrance, it was on to the galleries. Like I said, plenty of Vermeers, Rembrandts, Emanuel de Wittes, Paulus Potters, Rubens, Albert Cuyps to ogle at. Here is Torchbug taking in a Frans Hals self-portrait before continuing through the gallery.
After the Dutchies, time to take in some water colors by Andrew Wyeth. It's tough being a 1:40ish scale model, so I had to lend a hand in a few places for him to get a good look.
After that it was time for a break in the relaxing atrium....
...before attempting to enter the Piero di Cosimo religous art exhibit, where, unfortunately, photography was verboten.
Unfortunately, my lunchtime was now over, so back outside and on to the next LaLDer! Thanks for checking in on the Torchbug's contiued adventures!
