Playing With Photoshop, Part 1

My Dauer 962C post yesterday admittedly did not have the best images. I have been experimenting with a home made light box, and eager to try it out, I went to work with what I knew was inadequate lighting. The results were predictable.

I have since gotten some better lights, so I hope to keep experimenting with that. But in the mean time, thanks to excellent tips from resident image editing genii TE71 Xin and minicadriver, AKA iDSi_guy, I was able to play around in Photoshop this morning and here are the results! I put before and after shots for extra drama.

First, TE71 Xin’s version of the image above:

And here is minicadriver, AKA iDSi_guy’s version:

Diecast Photography threw his hat into the ring as well:

And here are my two experiments from this morning:

I mostly added contrast, then played with some of the Levels, and finally used minicadriver, AKA iDSi_guy’s (dude we need to add an acronym for your screen name to ZTP’s list, how about “miDSi_guy?”) top for adding a grayscale background. I took the tedious route, using the pen tool to trace around the car, copy-pasting it onto a new layer, then setting the BG layer to grayscale.

I will keep experimenting and hopefully everyone’s eyes will benefit from my learning! Also, if anyone has additional tips on post-editing images, please put them below in the comments.
