This is the Trust Racing Team Porsche 956 that came in 3rd in the 1983 1000km of Fuji, driven by Vern Shuppan and Naohiro Fujita. Trust Racing Team has since turned into GReddy as far as I know, a heritage that you can tell from the livery and logotype.
My entry for the Teutonic Tuesday edition of LaLD Car Week is a 1:43 model by Ebbro. My only Ebbro, but a great introduction to the brand. I already knew they made great models from this Supra GTC and this Mugen NSX, and the Porsche did not disappoint.
I got it from Ebay for a pretty reasonable price, I think sub-30 shipped from Japan in the best packaging I’ve ever seen for a diecast. It was a custom-made styrofoam box around the acrylic case, wrapped in brown paper. It was light-weight, shock-proof, and awesome.
Good points? Details, man! Details!! Look at that interior. Those seatbelts look amazing. Look at the tampos. I can read the text on the WEC sticker clearly, and the “Porsche” on the wheels is very legible.
There are some minor points, one of which is Jobjoris’ signature gripe: it does not roll well. This seems to be an issue with a lot of 1:43s though, probably in this case caused by being tightened to its base too much, pushing the wheels into the wells. Front is not as affected as the rear.
Despite all this, though, it’s one of my favorite models for sure. I mean, that shape! There is none better.
