I randomly found a cache of Kenmeris at Rite Aid on Friday, re-igniting a liking I have had to this casting but subsequently forgot about.
The Kenmeri is definitely my favorite version of Skyline; I was never a huge fan of the Hakosuka, and the modern ones don’t do that much for me either. But there is something about the muscle car-type shape that works amazingly well on 1970s Japanese sports cars (see also: Celica GT).
The Hot Wheels version, though a great casting, could definitely use some more detail. And with my recent good fortune of finding a lot of Heritage Series 2002s and Supervans, I for once had enough perfectly Japanese real riders to put on more deserving candidates. Painted gold, of course. I also added the aforementioned lights front and rear, and window trim. I left one of the lights blank to serve as an additional air intake but have yet to drill it out.
Upgrading the exhaust and interior detailing are up next, but I ran out of time after re-watching Return of the Jedi.
The far right one needs a bit of a touch-up... It’s so much easier to see flaws when taking close-up shots. Maybe I should make this part of my review process.
