[Custom] Rally Porsche!

Who said 911s aren’t practical? I’ve seen them tow stuff, race in anything from Yokohama Cup races to 24 hr endurance races to Group friggin B (yeah that was technically the 959 but no one can really argue with the fact that the 959 is the group b version of a 911). I’ve personally ridden in the back seat of 996 C4S so I can attest to its people mover abilities.

So I made Rally Porsche, a Safari-style 934 RSR Turbo. I never really intended for it to go this far when I started. Initially it was more of a design study for raising ride height and firing different size wheels. But then I saw Tinfoil Hat’s Escort and things escalated quickly.

Let’s run though the mods:

1. Suspension.

As previously mentioned, my only real intention for this car was raising the ride height. Tinfoil showed me his hacksaw method, and it worked to perfection. Much, MUCH easier than my first method, sanding the axle groove deeper with sandpaper wrapped around a credit card.

I actually ended up saying just too far and taking the whole front piece off, but nothing some kragle couldn’t handle. The ABS plastic cement Tinfoil taught me about strengthened the chassis back up and we were good to go.

2. Wheels

I love these Matchbox truck wheels, and the look great on the Porsche. I had to do a significant amount of sanding to the wheel arches to make them roll, but nothing too drastic.

3. Interior

I didn’t take any detailed interior shots, but there is a lot of saddle brown going on with blue details.

4. Mud Flaps

I made them out of printer paper, painted a nice contrasting red, then covered with some good varnish to give them that rubber look.

5. Rally Lights

I made a small mould, then filled out with the same ABS plastic cement I used for the chassis strengthening, sanded it to shape, then glued some lights from a Ford Escort to it. I painted the lights from the back only to keep the plastic transparent to make them look like actual glass lenses.

6. Roof Rack

The rack itself is made from some brass wire superglued together, while the spare wheel is the spare wheel from a Lamborghini LM02. I went this route rather than an actual wheel is that the Lambo’s spare isn’t as wide as the rolling wheels, so out looked a lot less like a super tall cake this way. The strap is just a thin strip of one of those floppy plastic for sale signs, bent around the rack and glued in place. A tiny piece on top, and I had a buckle.

I added exterior details like lights as well, and the mud is watered down brown paint, but I think that covers it!
