Vikings defensive backs coach Jerry Gray gives them out to his players after victories for their role in winning the game. But why give a $1 toy to athletes that make millions?
“So many things have changed over time with toys, but Hot Wheels have stayed the same,” safety Harrison Smith said. “They’re really one of the only things that’s still real: It’s metal, and the price hasn’t really changed. When we have a good game, [coach Jerry Gray] gives us that to show us the value of how we played.”
Or, as Gray himself said at the beginning of the season, hard work never goes out of style.

I like that reasoning. I never thought I’d see Hot Wheels pop up on ESPN.com, though. That’s for sure.
