[Custom] Details On a No-Name But Very Nice GT40 Mk II

I stopped by the dollar store a few weeks ago and found nothing of note among the Hot Wheels and Matchbox. But they did have a few of these no name brand Ford castings, and the GT40 Mk II struck me as very nice!

It’s a very small casting, but very well detailed, and in a great color. It’s main downfall are the terrible, terrible wheels. I mainly picked it up because I was curious to see it next to the MBX yellow GT40, which in my mind would look huge in comparison. This might be because they are different generations of GT40, but I am not nearly well versed enough in that car to know. I had to look up which mark this was, and the snorkle on the back matched with what I saw Mk IIs look like, so I concluded it must be just that.

Back to the casting! I walked out the door, opened up the blister, and to my delight, the casting was held together with a single screw! Hooray! Wheel swap would be happening soon!

So here is the after view. I added detailing front and rear, outlined the panel lines a tad, lowered it a bit, but didn’t do a wheel swap. I wanted to put a set of MC5 wheels on it, paint them gold, and have that be it. But I don’t have them in a staggered setup...

I ended up reusing the wheels that came with it, but sanded off the horrible protruding lip that was on the wheels and painting the inside gold. Looks okay, but I’m not 100% happy.
