Late last week I finally found myself a red BMW M4 (among some other E case cars I wanted) at Walmart, and then another at Giant on a grocery run, on sale for 88 cents! Can’t beat that.

I already knew it would require a wheel swap before I ever saw one based on my knowledge of which wheels Hot Wheels decided to shod her with. I’ve never liked those FTE2 wheels, and I like them even less when they don’t even have the actual FTE nickle plated axles to make them at least functional. I do have to admit that they look better than I thought they would, and the color on the M4 is EXCELLENT! I thought it was going to be more of a fire engine red, but this burgundy suits the car so well, and the finish is superb.

Initially I wanted to put a set of MBX split ten-spokes on it like I did on my custom M4, but then the thought popped into my head that MBX’s 6-spoke wheels kind of resemble the wheels on my E90 335i. Worth a shot, right?

Much improved already, but after some instagram comments on it became clear that I needed to tweak things a tad. So I took a licorice scented (obvious choice for Dutchmen) Mr. Sketch scented marker and went to work de-chroming the wheels. Then I painted them silver, threw on some black wash, and here we are. Oh, and I also sanded down some of the tread that was just a little too prominent.
