Superfly competition is over! Builds done, and now the wait is on for the LaLD-only top-5 that Superfly, Hot Wheels, Magnus Walker, etc. are obviously going to pick. Between R32rennsport, DarvsCustoms, Vdubyajohn, and the Dakar 959, is there any doubt that LaLD will reign supreme?

Well, the Superfly competition being over also means that my excuse for not working on commissioned customs is gone. So here is part one of what will hopefully be a quick 4-part series of those pieces I have had in the works for others.

This is a trio of cars Dick Saplenti, MD sent me a while ago to work on: a Tomica Porsche Boxster to wheelswap and add some detailing to, a beat up Matchbox E46 3-series that needed a restoration - badly, and another Matchbox E46 in much better condition, that needed some slight detailing and an interior swap to make it look closer to his 1:1.

The Boxster had many shoes on before we settled on this pair of black matchbox 5-spokes. I think they work. I added definition in the intakes on the front and sides, and some fog lights in the front.

The beat up E46 used to be blue at one point, but I went for a smart-looking metallic graphite color that I think works very nicely. Full detailing all around, of course, and resto complete! This car was also the donor for the interior swap with the silver E46. Silver had a grey interior, this one had black, and to match the silver 1:1 it needed to have a black dash with the grey interior, so as a consequence, this one now has a black interior with a grey dash.

The silver E46 got window stickers to match the ones on Dr. Saplenti’s 1:1, and the aforementioned dash swap. I also detailed the wheels after these photos were taken. And I apparently forgot to dust off the cars before taking these photos, because of course.
