I recently reached 1000 instagram followers (Whoo! Thanks for all you guys that are on IG following me, and if you are not, feel free to follow @philiphilip! :)), and in usual VDH Customs fashion, I was late (by 380 followers) in doing a giveaway to mark the occasion.
I just concluded the giveaway on Saturday, but here is the car that will be heading to @hooptywagon, who is also an avid customizer on IG, and I can definitely recommend following him for some great customs.
This is a Porsche 911R of the 993 generation, obviously inspired by the recent 991 generation 911R. I wanted to do another wingless 993 GT2 ever since I did one a long time ago, but was always annoyed at the fact that the decklid didn’t lay flat. I got around it on the old version by painting the underside black to make it look like it went into high-speed deployment mode, but was never all that happy with it.
So this time I tried something different. I cut off the GT2 wing, filed the whole thing flat, and took a jewelers saw and cut a small “incision” along where the panel gap would be for the decklid. I then picked up Jeremy Clarkson’s favorite tool, yelled, “POWAAAAAAAA!” and hammered the lid down until it laid flush with the car. Some putty and smoothing later, and here we are!
The interior is super simple, just added a few touches of color, but the rest is just a black wash over the silvery plastic. The tail lights are painted on by hand, and I’m not 100% happy with it, but it was much easier than doing a decal. The detailing on this casting is seriously lacking in the rear lights department, so I did what I could to correct that.
I tried to do some different color backgrounds, and in my opinion the yellow and red turned out the best, along with the black. Let me know which you guys like the best!
