Bees! Who doesn’t love ‘em?
Especially if they sound as good as they do when you stuff about 400 of them under the hood and unleash them at just the right time.
I’ve never been into JDM cars that much, and consequently don’t know too much about them, but when I saw Savant Young’s 1973 RX-3 on Jay Leno’s Garage, I was instantly struck by the look of it. The color combo of non-metallic grey, black wheels and trim, and blue accents is brilliant.
So when Hot Wheels came out with the RX-3 I knew I wanted to replicate it. The main obstacle: those dang fenders.
I already took you guys through the early stages of the build, so I’ll refer you back to this post if you would like to relive that, but let’s pick things up after the fenders came off.
Next stage was removing the chin-, and lip spoilers.
After that came the iterative cycle of primer, smoothing fenders, primer, smoothing fenders, etc.
Then base coat...
Then detailing...
Then a PSA about being patient and not customizing while tired at 2am where you decide you need to clear the body before the trim paint is 100% dry, making it run all over the damn place. Ugh.
But I’ve come too far and am not about to strip it and start over, so I fixed the paint issues in post-production for these shots and will display it as a reminder to myself to stay patient.
I still love this little guy, though.
Photo time!!
