Three flavors of 917, three flavors of Martini, three flavors of 1:43 model makers. (And I literally JUST noticed that two out of these three are wearing race number 3 as well!)
The #22 is, of course, the winner of the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours with Helmut Marko and my homie Gijs van Lennep at the wheel. The model is by IXO. I reviewed it before
The #3 917LH is the famed “Hippie” that finished 2nd in 1970, driven by Willi Kauhsen and Gérard Larrousse. It qualified first, literally earning its stripes in the process (the white borders around the green psychedelic markings were added after quali). It now resides in the Simeone Museum in Pennsylvania, and I really must make the drive up there to see it some time. The model is by CMR.
The other #3 is by AUTOart and is amazing. It has movable steering! Besides that it also has a wonderfully detailed underside, and the red lips and tail are just killer on the livery. This car was driven to the top of the podium at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1971 by the aforementioned Gérard Larrousse alongside the legendary Vic Elford.
You’ll see some differences in lighting in the photos. The darker ones are using the “regular” settings on my Pixel 2 XL, while the lighter ones use the Nightsight mode. I figured it would be interesting to see them side by side.
My apologies for being a day late to post this cocktail of Martinis, but hopefully the cars make up for my tardiness.
Cheers!
