RxR: The Blacksmith Shoppe

Here is something a little different from my Sierra Nevada logging rolling stock collection. Logging railroads were adaptive operations, continually moving and creating new base camps, spurs off the mainline and other necessities to facilitate maximum operating efficiency. Back then you had to be mobile and improvise with what you had. Here we have a short flatbed that has had an open face shed constructed on top of it, complete with a hotbed and a small coal tender. To keep the fire warm there is a bellow as well as an anvil. There should probably be a few buckets of water laying around too because the life expectancy of this rail car probably wasn’t the longest.

This particular model is fairly detailed though some extra paint detail would make this very realistic. I equipped this piece of rolling stock with highly accurate sprung trucks, the wheels even having the correct foundry castings, and knuckle couplers. All the decals are period correct font and the S.J.&E. was a real Sierra Nevada railway (San Joaquin & Eastern) of which I have ample literature on.
