On our English themed day as well as a Le Mans themed week what better way to honor them then with the winning #5 Aston Martin DBR1 car from the 1959 Le Mans. This was a banner year for Aston Martin winning the 1000km of Nurburgring, then the 24 Hour of Le Mans which would lead to their overall victory in the 1959 World Sports Car Championship, a feat only managed prior by Ferrari. In fact this winning #5 DBR1 driven by Carroll Shelby and his co-driver Roy Salvadori would best the nearest Ferrari in 3rd place by 26 laps! Take that Enzo! It would also be the only time Aston Martin would win at this event. This is the Shelby Collectibles 1/18th model, which is a very good representation of the car with many excellent details in my opinion. I’ve been very happy with all my Shelby Collectible 1/18's, this is now my 4th purchase. The paint is gorgeous and lends itself to the curvy body, not a bad angle on this one! It should be noted that this car ran wheel spats for the 24 Hour which isn’t represented by this model. There is nothing to not like about this model, especially at this price point. My only gripe is no spare tire in the luggage compartment, but hey, who is looking anyhow? Don’t get lost in the emerald paint, enjoy!
