1955 was a bittersweet year for Mercedes-Benz. Many of their epic wins that year would be overshadowed by the tragedy of the 1955 Le Mans accident in which they would withdraw from racing for nearly three decades.

This 1:18 example by Maisto of the winning #104 car is surprisingly packed with lots of details for a bargain model, so much so that I’ve ordered up the sister Mille Miglia car to join it eventually. My only gripe with this model is the chrome wire wheels, a good coat of flat silver on them would make this car look more correct and less cheap IMHO. With the right lighting and angles this die cast looks pretty good if you ask me. Enjoy!
