Rennsport Reunion: 1996 Sebring 12 Hour

LALD exclusive. The Champion Porsche 993 GT2 EVO, 1996 12 Hours of Sebring class winner, in 1:18 by UT Models. To my knowledge no one here has ever shared this model.

This car started life as a 993 Turbo S factory race car, running in the IMSA Supercar Champion series in North America in 1994 before being bought by Champion Motorsport.

They converted it to GT2 EVO specification and competed in the GT1 division of the IMSA Exxon Supreme series. With drivers including Hans Stuck, Brian Redman and Dereck Bell, scoring a class win at the 1996 Sebring event.

At the time the car ran with a Porsche 962 type flat fan 3.6 litre engine peaking at 700bhp. The insanity!

This has always been a grail model for me and I was happy to acquire it this year for well under market value. I have toyed with idea of repainting the BBS centers gold as it only wore white centers in period. In any case it’s a completely bonkers car!

Enjoy!
