Thank you for the postive responses on my Toyota truck review! Today I bring to you a Plymouth Superbird from the now-deceased Johnny Lightning brand.
Johnny Lightning never showed up on the shores of a tiny island called Singapore, I was only exposed to them via Youtube videos and diecast blogs. I was immediately sucked in by the details their castings had and began have more interest. But I never pulled the trigger to getting one, I tried to discipline myself to some of the diecast brands I'm already collecting to stop my expenses from spiralling out of control.
However, in 2013, I received news from a trusted source that Johnny Lightning was soon to be no more. Tomy, the current custodian of the brand which also makes Tomica, decided to cease production in everything Johnny Lightning. I knew now is the time to get some of these cars, discipline be damned.
One car let to another, and this Superbird you see is the latest JL in my collection. The Playing Mantis era of Johnny Lightning were nothing short of amazing. When I held my first JL in my hands I was both surprised and depressed - surprised by how nicely crafted and finished each car was and then depressed when I realised there won't be more new releases to excite us.
I now have a new goal, to get more Mopars from Johnny Lightning (again the discipline thing) so I can continue to admire and appreciate the great pieces they put out.
I can ignore the casting error under the wing since the paint was immaculate. White lettering in rubber tires never fail to win me over.
Watching Graveyard Carz might have an effect on making this purchase. This wraps up my not-actually-a-review on the Superbird. If you have story about Johnny Lightning don't hesitate to share it in the comments section, I'll be keen to read it! I hope you've enjoyed the pictures as much as I have taken them.
