2010 Hot Wheels Garage: '65 VW Fastback

Hello fellow LaLDers, it has been some time since my last diecast feature post. I haven't forgot about the cars from my Hot Wheels Garage haul, but school assignments robbed me the time to share them with you. With some load off my shoulders, let me make up by showcasing this impressive '65 Volkswagen Fastback.

Upon first glance, one could tell this regular commuter has been transformed for quarter-mile duties. This casting, sharing the same designer as the infamous VW Dragbus, Phil Riehlman, debuted as a basic model in 2008. In 2010 this little stunner was released in the Hot Wheels Garage series

I commend the designer to allow the metallic blue to to show through with a clever restraint on the tampo work. Simple decals and painted headlamps is enough to make me interested in this example. I like the self-plug shown by the designer's name in the decals, that's a nice touch.

This miniature here has got some heft, metal on metal construction complete with chrome Real Rider RRE wheels. The designer nailed the stance on this quarter-mile racer, it looks fast even when standing still. Without a doubt, this will be popular among collectors. The first edition on card demands $10 on a guide I looked at.

Looking at the 'chute, you count on some serious ETs. The single large central is perhaps a trademark shared with its dragbus sibling. Braaaaap! Braaaaaap!

I've said it and will say it again, the Garage series (as well as Boulevard) have put out many show-stoppers for (adult) collectors, I couldn't be happier when this came in the lot. It has gone up quite a bit in prices in the secondary market, I recommend getting one if you found one on the cheap!

Here're the rest of the pictures, I might have a bit too trigger-happy when snapping this with my camera.

A flip-open body to boot! Customizers will like it see that there're less rivets to deal with when taking it apart.

Alright, that's a wrap for the Fastback. Even though, I'm a not a big VeeDub fan, Phil has definitely made it in such a way it's more than just a VW. That's the appeal this casting has, if you like speed in general - this does deserve a spot in your collection.
