Fish n' Chips Friday: Jaguar XJS

Boy, it took me forever to shoot this big cat. Before LaLD, I had been surrounding myself with 1:64 diecast cars and occasionally dabbing into 1:43 models. LaLD showed me what I was missing out, the 1:18 scale is one the best damn way of getting as close to the cars that the country’s draconian road laws made impossible for the average Joe. This XJS from AUTOart is my first foray into this larger format of diecast cars.

After acquiring this model and much oh-ing and ah-ing at its exterior and interior, I was able to comprehend the praises these models receive, the visual treat it gives to the audience is unlike those in the smaller scale range.

With a larger size and extra features, it was a pleasure snapping away with the camera. This being a used model, meant it had blemishes in the chrome trim pieces, but a little patina adds on to the car’s character; akin to a driven example of a road car.

The details that AUTOart has put into this XJS is nothing short of spectacular, I then wondered how would it look on the other cars that they have replicated. Thus, cementing my decision to acquire more 1:18 models. Turns out, this isn’t the first 1:18 Aa model that I’ve shot.

It feels great to revisit this model and give it the attention it deserves, it might not be the best example out there, but it has taught me many things about the world of diecast. That’s why this collecting hobby never ceases being so enjoyable.
