Syd Mead's Sentinel

A few posts back I geeked out about the cars of Blade Runner designed by “visual futurist” Syd Mead, and I mentioned the HW casting based on one of his pieces of artwork: the Sentinel 400 Limo.

The HW version was designed by Nathan Proch for the 2002 First Editions line, and I managed to find a loose one for my collection.

It’s a little playworn, with some separation on the base, but I decided I liked it enough to chase down another variant of the same casting.

This one is from the Roll Patrol series in 2003, and I think the new tampos give it that Blade Runner feel.

There was a second release with the police livery in ‘03, with a light blue paint-job, and an orange Halloween special the same year with another new tampo set.

There’s the Roll Patrol “sheriff’s badge” symbol, but I’m not sure about the “Unofficial Police Business” thing... This isn’t exactly an undercover car!

Syd Mead actually drew the Sentinel 400 art for a promotional brochure from US Steel; for his 69th birthday, HW presented him with this unique 1/24th scale version of the casting...

I recognize the Deora, Deora II, Twin Mill, Ballistik, Zotic and Sling Shot there, hazy on the others. Sharp-eyed folks, comment below if you know what the other four are...
