In need of restoration advice.

I have an old HW Packin Pacer, way back from the first run of them in the 1978 line.

It’s supposed to look like this:

Instead, it looks like this:

I've been investigating a potential restoration but the problem is I literally have no experience with this stuff and I don't want to ruin the car. Does anyone have any advice for me?
