LaLD Car Week: Whatever Wednesday

So the doorbell came at a seemingly inopportune time today, but it did come with a nice surprise for me, and a perfect submissions for todays theme. I had been struggling with what to submit for today, so actually the delivery was perfect timing, because now I can show you a 1/18 TVR Tuscan MKII from Sunstar, it cost me $30 and technically came with a free Jaguar XJ220 in 1/18 from Maisto to screw around with (yay eBay).

I love TVR design. Like bugs from space or something.

The model has a great level of detail and quality for this price point: the carpet material is excellent, the rear lights are multiple pieces under clear lenses, the rear exhaust cans are carbon-look and do a great job of it, and the paint quality is amazing. I have some experience with Sunstar and this is an exceptional model from them.

The crazy TVR interior, completely insane and illogical, is all complete. that separate armrest-console thing hovers over the carpet with the shifter and the rest all in place, in decent casting too. There are multiple speakers separately placed throughout the rear of the cabin, not something I’d expect for this price. I am discovering all of this for the first time!

Cool. I knew the top came off (as it should!)

And the hood tilts forward to expose the cooling fans and some fluid top-ups, but not the engine. Just like the real car. The shut lines on the front of this piece are the only let-down as far as shut lines on this car are concerned.

A very welcome surprise to me was that the engine cover itself does come off to reveal the glorious SPEED SIX engine and it’s associated hardware. It all seems in place and the detail level here is, once again, insane for the price. Well done Sunstar!

So the whole thing opens up, except for the trunk, and the T Top comes off as it should. The rear window should technically also come out to give it a full T Bar, but okay, I get it. With all the little surprise features and details, and the high level of build, I am more than happy with my purchase. The interruption was worth it. And I still have a Jaguar to mess around with (race spec 1/18 anyone?).

The wheels/tires and brakes are really really good, dimples in the rotors and a full thread on the soft rubber tires.

Not a fan of the name on the license plate. TVR Tuscans have their name on the main badge on the back anyway, so now it says TUSCAN TUSCAN back there.
