I feel like the 288 GTO Evo is often the forgotten Ferrari. It’s basically the legendary GTO on steroids, but due to the cancellation of Group B, it never got its chance to shine.
Ferrari only built 5 of these Evoluzione models and still owns one of them today. Somehow this car got overshadowed by the original 288 GTO and the F40. Those are giant shadows! Some consider it the missing link between the two.
So this model came to me from our Secret Super this post Xmas from the one, the only, AlienProbe. It’s a 1/18 scale model from Universal Hobbies. I believe this model was also marketed as a Jouefevolution at one point. It reminds me of an old Bburago quite a bit.
Unfortunately the eBay seller that AP got this Evo off of didn’t know how to properly pack a model. The car had a rough ride through the post office and some repairs were in order. AlienProbe did an awesome job though and restored this model to its former glory!
The interior and the engine bay are where the car shines. The body is so-so with panels that don’t align and super wide gaps. The wheels are standard issue old 1/18 Ferrari wheels; the same ones on all of the Ferraris you had as kids.
