Just about the finest smell in the world

‘cept maybe die-cast.

I don’t usually buy big die-cast. I haven’t in many years. I’ll pick up the odd Hotwheels here and there, and when I buy a car I like to own a replica of it... then of course there’s all the Trans Ams I have. But that is done. No one is making ‘77 Trans Am scale models anymore that I don’t already have. Not that I’d want to know. My shelf(ves) is(are) full.

But I like to frequent the local thrift stores. Not for diecast, but for other deals. Not that they would have any cars, besides the sandwich bags full of manky Matchbox at the Goodwill.

The other store I go to is more of a furniture, book, and clothing place. This weekend they had a nice holiday display all over the store, and under the tree by the door was this:

I noticed it, not having seen one before, and saw the price tag on it. Too much. The wife and I made our purchases, walked out to her car, and once in she asked why I didn’t get Christine if I wanted it so much.

“It’s too much”

She replies “They were asking more last time I was here”

ORLY. So I googled the car, the brand, and found not that many out there. And the price people were asking was WELL above what the thrift store was.

So we went back in. Mostly to verify its condition. Which, as you can see, was factory fresh. Even had the plastic straps holding everything closed, and the antenna mast still in its protective bubble glued to the back wall of the box. The box itself was not tape sealed, so I didn’t feel bad taking it out.

So as you can tell by now I bought it. Brought it home, opened it up, tried the lights, found them dead, so I replaced the 10 year old batteries and VOILA. Scary car.

I carefully removed the tape, made sure everything was as it should be, and other than some paint defects on the trunk and typical Ertl molding issues (especially the all plastic roof) its a really nice car.

And just to show what’s behind those very darkly tinted opaque windows:

I only wished the radio lit up as spookily as the headlights do.

And since I couldn’t resist taking a pic in front of her namesake:

Not sure if I’ll be keeping it, its not really my style. I am a fan of the book and movie although, which is why I got it in the first place.
