3 Chevys and a Comparison

Just in case you’re wondering, I was thinking of proposing this title to Hugh Grant as a sequel to his “4 Weddings and a Funeral”.

NOT.

Ok, let’s get back to reality. Here I am going to compare 3 of the 1950's Chevy 3100 pickups of the 1/24 - 1/25 scale made by Maisto and Jada.

First contender. Maisto brand Chevy 3100

Maisto did a low cost but decent looking truck. For one, the cab and bed are molded into one. The hood side emblems which read Chevrolet 3100 is painted on instead of separate parts.

The headlights, front grill, Chevrolet emblem and bumper are separate parts. Has one side mirror. Windshield has silver paint to simulate chrome trim. Wipers molded on the windshield instead of separate parts. Hood is molded with the body and does not open.

The license plate holder is molded with the bumper. Rear lights are molded with the body and painted with the same color.

The tail gate can be opened and the floor bed is molded in one color.

Interior comes in one color with no sticker or color to highlight the gauges.

Black wall tire with red Chevrolet letter on hub cap. Tire width seems to be based on stock. Has working steering as an added bonus.

Gas cap and door handles are molded with the body and painted with the same color. A gap on the door when pictured in close up but looks ok when viewed from a distance.

2nd contender. Jada brand Chevy 3100

Jada did a great job with the 2 tone look. The cab and bed are molded separately. The hood side emblems which read 3100 is painted on instead of separate parts.

The headlights, front grill, Chevrolet emblem and bumper are separate parts. Have 2 side mirrors. Windshield has molded trim but no silver paint to simulate chrome. Wipers are separate parts.

Hood has opening feature and shows a decent looking engine.

The license plate holder and bumper are separate parts. Only one rear light and is molded with the license plate holder.

The tail gate can be opened and comes with chains. The floor bed is molded in one color.

Interior comes with one color with sticker to simulate the speedometer.

White wall tire with red Chevrolet letter on hub cap. Tire width is wide and is not based on stock. Has no working steering.

Gas cap and door handles are separate parts. No gap on the door when pictured in close up.

3rd contender. Chevrolet 3100 lowrider by Jada

Not a fan of lowrider but like all the additional accessories not included in the other 2. Jada did a great job with the 2 tone look. The cab and bed are molded separately. The hood side emblems which read 3100 is painted on instead of separate parts.

Same as the other Jada above. The bumper however has bumper guards and visors on the headlights.

The tail gate can be opened and comes with chains. The floor bed comes with simulated wood via sticker.

With a covered spare tire on the side. With rear skirts and separate trims.

Interior comes with two colors. With chrome steering wheel and stickers to simulate gauges.

White wall tire with no red Chevrolet letter on hub cap. Tire width is wide and is not based on stock. Has no working steering.

Some of you may know what this is and I am not one of them as I thought this contraception looks like an aircraft engine and wondered what was the point of installing this. Someone then pointed out that this is a side window air conditioning unit.

And the last photo shows the top view and as you can see the Maisto is shorter as it is a 1/25 scale.

So in conclusion, the Maisto brand looks more like your everyday work truck. I think it has the potential to be customize for a weathered look. The 2 tone red and black has the typical restored for car show look and so is with the low rider.
