In this series I will showcase DLM cars ranging within the 1/64 and smaller. During Bread box week I featured some of my different VW type 2 collections but took a detour and now it’s back and my 24th model will be the Jada ‘63 Volkswagen bus pickup with sliding bed.
Now if you’re wondering whether I just wanted to put all the qualifying names for this model, this is how Jada identified this die cast. Guess they want to cover all the bases by including bus and pickup on it. For me it should just be called ‘63 VW tandem axle flatbed or simply VW flatbed.
So who is Jada? Jada’s website indicate it as founded in 1999 and headquartered in City of Industry, CA., Jada Toys is a leading manufacturer of authentically licensed and highly stylized toys, games, and collectibles. Jada works closely with major entertainment and vehicle brands to produce the innovative, patented items that our fans have come to expect.
The first time I knew about Jada is when I found one of their 1/64 on sale at Target and decided to try them out. Would you believe my first model is another flatbed truck on a Ford COE.
Jada usually comes with rubber tires and metal base with screws instead of rivet. However I notice that they usually don’t come with opening/moving parts but this one does come with a sliding bed and it goes down as well.
Released around 2007, Jada also made a color match VW beetle just like Maisto’s Elite Transport except these are sold separately.
Here the sliding bed is ready to give the bug a piggy back ride.
Of course the VW flatbed seems a lot smaller or maybe the beetle is slightly larger?
Overall I like the nice yellow and blue color combination. Both came with some nice official parts logo.
