In this series I will showcase DLM cars ranging within the 1/64 and smaller. So we shift gears to a Tomica mainline for the moment with my 28th model, the Honda Civic Type R by Tomica
Don’t let the size of the actual car fool you. This baby got the Type R badge due to it being the highest performance version of the Honda Civic made by Honda Motor Company of Japan. It features a lightened and stiffened body, specially tuned engine and upgraded brakes and chassis. Red is also used in the interior to give it a special sporting distinction and to separate it from other Honda models.
This is based on the 3rd generation Civic with 2 types of chassis the FD2 and FN2 chassis.
The Japanese market Civic Type R (FD2) was sold as a four-door sports sedan for the first time rather than a three-door hot hatch. Using the Japanese market four-door sedan as a base model meaning the new Type R is now bigger, wider and heavier.
The FN2 chassis is a European market Civic Type R (not shown) that is offered only as a three-door hatch back and uses a different chassis and internal layout (notably tank placement below the driver’s seat), which will serve as base for the next European Jazz. Only the hood opens for this model and it was difficult to open as there is hardly anything your hand can grab to. The headlight and taillights are painted on as typical of their mainline. Being that the headlights are not round like the old days I felt it does not have any dimension or realism at all compare to the picture on the box.
