In this series I will showcase DLM cars ranging within the 1/64 and smaller. So we’re back with the TLV with my 29th model, the Nissan Diesel 680 Truck by Tomica.
Most of us have been exposed to the Datsun/Nissan cars and pickup but did you know that Nissan also does the big industrial trucks and thanks to the TLV series we are not limited to the 2 - 3 inch size for big trucks but is based on a true scale with one of their bigger 1/64 model.
The size specially the box is almost comparable to some of Matchbox early Major Packs.
Taken from Early Datsun website, the Nissan 680 was introduced in March 1959, and it marked a big step up in design from the previous Nissan 580 series. The new truck featured bold and very modern styling for it’s time. The broad flat front area of the truck had quad headlights, which were becoming fashionable on passenger cars from that era. The headlights on the 680 had the lights stacked vertically, with one on top of the other.
Another site came up with this info about the engine on these trucks. It came with either a 4 litre straight six petrol engine or strangely a 3 cylinder 3.7 litre two stroke diesel engine. This truck was also the basis of the 690 bus which I wished Tomica would produced one of these days.
Tomica also made a variety of trucks based on the 680 which I hope to feature here in the future. As usual Tomica TLV produced a nicely made truck and the detail is top notch for a 1/64 scale. And of course the price is top notch as well. :)
This also came with these accessories.
