Hot Sixty 4th: Legends of Speed

In this series I will showcase DLM cars ranging within the 1/64 and smaller. Here is another Datsun but not from the TLV series but from Mattel with my 32nd post, the Datsun Fairlady 2000 from Hot Wheels.

Designed by Hot Wheels designer Jun Imai, this is the latest Datsun to come out of Mattel after the nostalgic 510 and 240z. Of course if you want to include the pickup let’s not forget the Datsun 620. The picture above however did not originally come like that.

If you remember from my previous post after acquiring this I was slightly disappointed in the lack of detail up front so I decided to add a little color and here I included the original and the customized one for comparison.

I tried to use a black sharpie fine tip to create the front grill after painting it with silver but the black was coming out uneven so I decided to paint it over with silver and it tone down the black to where it seems to even out.

Of course you can’t have just the front without doing something at the back so...

And of course I added some silver to the racing mirrors as well.

The Datsun also sports a few racing icons on the side but if you haven’t notice there is one icon that is almost consistent with most vintage style Japanese car made by Mattel. It’s the square looking one.

This icon belongs to a website called Japanese Nostalgic car where they featured real Japanese car for collectors, enthusiasts and drivers of vintage Japanese automobiles. Their criteria are the cars have to be Japanese and 25 years or older. I borrowed this logo from their website so we can all see it better.
