Hot Sixty 4th: One long Teutonic Bus on a Tuesday

Welcome to another series of DLM cars ranging within the 1/64 and smaller or sometimes larger. For my 52nd post, let’s look at a series by Maisto called Tow & Go which probably copied the Hitch and Tow of Greenlight.

This is available in both blister pack and box. Maisto indicated in the package as Maisto Design Volkswagen van ‘Samba’/Alameda Trailer.

I have the box packaging and this model quickly sold out in our Walmart and so far have not seen it restock.

Like Jada, Maisto usually release their 1/64 models like this bus not as a stock but custom as shown without front and rear bumpers plus large rear wheels. What attracted me is the black steelie wheels and white walls.

The VW emblem and both front and rear lights are painted on. They even added a roof rack which is a nice touch.

The rear hitch is too large for its size and probably was intentional because it is made of plastic and was probably marketed more as a toy.

The rear engine cover does open but is slightly tight.

Not fond of the lowered trailer look but still decent. Unlike Greenlight, the trailer jack does not rotate and body and base is made of plastic instead of metal. There are no opening features as well.

So the question is would you collect Maisto’s Tow and Go series as it is around $3.00 cheaper than Greenlight’s Hitch and Tow, vice versa as you rather have Greenlight’s more stock look or both?
