Hot Sixty 4th: Muscle Monday with a Black Muscle

Welcome again to another DLM cars from 1/64 and smaller and sometimes larger. Have you ever resisted getting a model since it is not something that you truly desire or collect but yet made you change your mind? For my 57th post, this is how it came about.

I previously indicated that I don’t collect a lot of muscle cars so the Auto World brand is not even in my priority radar. But lately I’ve been keeping an eye on it ever since they issued the Dodge Polara which I featured last Monday.

The 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL featured here is one such model that although looks nice was not something I would immediately pick up. But when I saw this, I immediately pick this up since for me, the black glossy paint with black stock steel wheels makes it one mean looking muscle machine and very attractive.

I also love the old school look with chrome bumpers and rounded head and tail lights.

This model includes an opening hood which unlike the Polara is much easier to open.

Although limited on what my camera can capture on the interior it seems there is some detailed on it.

Another factor that may make me like or dislike a model is the style of the wheels. I like those realistic black steel wheels and unlike some Hot Wheels model, the sizes on all wheels are identical.

I would rate this 4.5 out of 5 for QC as one of the rear wheel is slightly wobbly but not enough to distract me from enjoying it. 4.9 on play value for adults as it had an opening where you can show the engine but for kids it would be 4.25 as it could probably survive rough play but if the kid expects it to move like Hot Wheels then it might be disappointed. 5 for detail as this is as good as you can get for a 1/64 car. The only other brand that may surpass it is the Tomica TLV which is more than double the price.

I would again like to commend Auto World on their packaging for including a box where you can store the car after opening the blister pack.

So there you have it. A color or wheel style had somehow persuaded me to include this in my collection. Whether this situation will occur again or not remains to be seen. What about you?
