Hot Sixty 4th: Murica Monday Li'l Red Express

Welcome again to another DLM cars from 1/64 and smaller and sometimes larger. No, not the little red wagon that kids pulled with them but still for kids and also big kids none the less. On my 62nd post, we will be looking at what is often neglected but now becoming almost extinct in the Hot Wheels or even Matchbox mainline.

Can you guess what is common among these trucks besides the model itself? Comparing the original red truck on the right, the 2 reissued models were not tampered by the higher ups with regards to the truck bed which are still “Full Metal Bed” (borrowed from Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket”) instead of cutting it out and molding it with the interior like they are now doing on the more current pickups like the Hot Wheels Datsun or what they did to the original Matchbox casting like the Land Rover Defender and Land Cruiser.

Released in 2012 as a new model, the ‘78 Dodge Li’l Red Express Pickup was released in what else.... in red! It even has the name Li’l Red Express truck on the side. Next was a purple color and strangely it too has the Li’l Red Express truck on the side. 3 more recolors were released after that but this time that name did not show up anymore.

This yellow truck is part of the 2017 model year release and is now called 1978 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck with the word truck substituting the pickup. Notice that it now retained only the word ‘Express’ on the side.

Next we have the latest recolor in light blue for the 2017 release and at least to me very hard to find since I only saw one in our Target and had never been able to find it again in our nearby Target including Walmart. Note that both of the 2017 release has identical but different color side tampo.

If you remember my last post on the 2 Greenlight Dodge D-100 from the County Road series, those and this truck are all part of the Dodge D series.

Lastly I do enjoy these 3 trucks as they don’t have any crazy tampos nor enlarge size wheels at the rear.

Do you have any color preference among the 3?
