Hot Sixty 4th: In The Beginning... (Skyline Part 1)

Welcome again to another DLM cars from 1/64 and smaller and sometimes larger. Did you know that on April 24, 1957, the Skyline debuted on a rainy day at the famed Tokyo Takarazuka Theater? My 68th post is about that beginning.

This 1957 Prince Skyline Deluxe was manufactured by Prince Motor Company, which at that time was Japan’s premier carmaker, with a focus on large cars and trucks.

It featured front double wishbones and a De Dion rear suspension, commonly found in sports cars at the time. It was also the fastest car produced in Japan back then, with a top speed of 125 kph (77 mph).

Wait... the manufacturer is called Prince? So you may be wondering, is this somehow still related to the Nissan Skyline? In fact there is a connection but that will be in a future post.

Can’t get enough of one? How about a combo?

Both made by Tomica, released under their TLV series called Prince Skyline DX.

The black one came with a regular size box like the one above and was released during the 50th anniversary of the Skyline.

This 2 tone Skyline came in a boxed set (not shown), the size in which Tomica usually used when releasing something special like a 2 car set although this one only contains one. Like the Greenlight Hollywood series, this replica was based on a car used in a Japanese movie made by NIKKATSU STUDIOS. The regular size box shown contains a mini poster of the movie.

So there you have it. The first generation Skyline that would later inspired the GT-R.
