Hot Sixty 4th: A Historic Car Culture Event

News as early as October 2015 started coming out about the debut of the newest series from Hot Wheels called Car Culture. For my 141st post is a look back at 2016 as the year the first Car Culture was released.

I usually don’t collect every car in a set but when I saw the preview I thought to myself that this may be the day I will actually like every single car in the set. So I pre-ordered a set composed of 10 of 2 identical cars in a 5 car set.

A subseries in a series

Not only did Hot Wheels came up with a name for their series, they also have a name based on the theme of the set. The first and historically I think the most popular Car Culture set is the Japan Historics which composed of 5 Japanese cars from Datsun/Nissan, Toyota and Mazda.

Here’s a look from time past when cars were uniquely designed.

My favorite and also the most popular among the set is Jun Imai’s personal 1/5 1971 Datsun 510 Wagon in Black with a Flame Red interior, this time it’s decked out in classic black and red Advan racing livery. The wheels are the new 4-spokes with hippari tires aka Chrome Red & Dark Grey C4SPRR.

The next popular and released in several racing liveries is the famed 3/5 Nissan Skyline HT 2000 GT-X aka Hakosuka with a classic livery inspired by Kunimitsu Takahashi’s #15 Nissan Works KPGC10 GT-R. The wheels are existing 8-spokes, which are reminiscent of RS-Watanabes aka Chrome & Grey RR8SP.

Next is the 4/5 Toyota 2000 GT, Japan’s first supercar and the first seriously collectable Japanese car. Hot Wheels first released this as a mainline in 2013. Wheels are the Chrome & Gold RR8SP.

Another Nissan is the famous 2/5 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R aka Kenmeri was produced after the Hakosuka era ended. Hot Wheels first released this model as a mainline around 2011 but this was my first time to acquire this casting. Wheels are the Chrome & Grey RR8SP.

Lastly is the 5/5 Mazda RX-3, a brand new casting for 2016 that debuted in this series. It features a ducktail spoiler and front spook. The model has the new Chrome Classic 4-Spoke Real Rider with hippari stretched tires.

Nice as they are there were some minor issues with some of the models and you won’t know it until you DLM it.
