Of course before this slogan became a household name with Ford, it boasted the F1 as “Engineered to cost still less to run”.
Ford adopted the numbering system for their truck like the F-1 (half-ton) which allowed buyers and dealers to identify gross vehicle weight ratings at a glance.
For the 1952 model with 8 cylinder, a V-8 badge was added to the hood and the Flathead V-8 boosted an extra 6 hp, so it was now rated at 106 hp. A V8 engine is an eight-cylinder V configuration engine with the cylinders mounted on the crankcase in two sets (or banks) of four, with all eight pistons driving a common crankshaft. In its simplest form, the V8 is basically two parallel inline-four engines sharing a common crankshaft.
Ford had actually spent $1,000,000 (in 1952 money) to design and tool a cab they touted as having “Living Room Comfort”. Improvements included greater headroom, more comfortable seating, a new suspension system, and updated ventilation control.
